Doctoral Program in Clinical Psychology

The Division of Psychology of the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Northwestern University's Feinberg School of Medicine offers a PhD program in clinical psychology that is fully accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA). The division also conducts an APA-accredited internship program located at the Stone Institute of Psychiatry of Northwestern Memorial Hospital.

The doctoral program in clinical psychology is full time, typically taking five to six years, including internship, to complete. The course of study is designed to develop intensively trained clinical psychologists who will work in academic teaching and research, human services administration, and direct clinical service.

In a typical year we select one neuropsychology student and three to five students in our general clinical psychology track. All students take the same basic required courses. The neuropsychology student takes additional required courses, conducts research with facuty neuropsychologists, and trains in general clinical as well as specialized neuropsychological practica. The clinical psychology students conduct their research with faculty mentors identified upon admission to the program and take clinical practica that expose them to a wide array of psychopathology in many settings.
