Stress and Depression Lab (SADlab)
Jackie Gollan, Ph.D. and the staff of the Stress and Depression Lab (SADlab) accept one student per year to receive clinical and research training in the developmental psychopathology and treatment of depression. Research in the lab centers on understanding mechanisms (e.g., biological, behavioral, environmental) that confer vulnerability to mood disorders, risk and vulnerability, and predictors of the onset and progress of depressive disorders. Current research projects focus on (a) cognitive and biological moderators of the association between early life stress and early onset depression, (b) measuring individual differences in the substrates of emotion in adults with depressive and anxious conditions, and (c) developing cost-effective interventions for reducing the severity and recurrence of depressive episodes. Students in this program may elect to receive training in empirically-supported treatments for depressive disorders (e.g., CBT; BA); couples therapy; divorce counseling, family forensics, and parenting evaluations in custody disputes. Graduates of this program will be prepared for careers as clinical investigators in university or academic medical center settings.
